The village belongs to the municipality of Akrata
of the Perfecture of Achaia. Before the
application of the Kapodistria-Law Zarouchla
constituted together with other villages of this
area the historical municipality of Nonakrida. The
Greek revolution of 1821 started here. Remains
of this revolution ( to be seen in Zarouchla) are
the Tower of Fotila and the House of the Local
hero Sotirios Charalambis. The village is 35 km
(asphalt) away from Akrata and 18 km away from
the skiing center of Chelmos. The road to the
skiing center is a dirt road for which the cost of
1,4 bil. Drs. is being included in the works to be
constructed of the 3rd Kinotiko Plesio Stirixis of
the district of West Greece, planned for spring/
summer 2002. So in the near future the approach
to the skiing center of Chelmos will be for the Atheneans shorter and quicker through the beautiful village of Zarouchla than through the town of Kalavrita.

50 meters after the end of the village which is itself totaly surrounded by green nature and running cold waters, starts the fascinating fir tree forest of Chelmos. Fantastic excursions with Zarouchla as a starting point can be made inside the forest, to the nearby villages, to Feneo of Korinthia, to the Waters of Etigo, to the Tsivlos-Lake, to the skiing center of Chelmos and to other important places.
